The Cevennes form the lower foothills of the Massif Central and stretch from Provence to Rousillon. They occupy part of the departements of Gard, Herault, Lozere, Ardeche and Tarn. Major towns in the area are Alés, Mende, Florac, Anduze, St Jean du Gard, Ganges, Le Vigan, Bességes. Parts of the Cevennes are also within easy reach of Bagnols sur Ceze, Uzes, Nimes, Quissac, Sommieres, Montpellier, Clermont l'Herault, Lodeve and Millau. The privileged position between mountain and Med (1 hr away) makes it a very popular Languedoc area for both residents and vacations.
