    THE DEMOISELLES CAVE

Located near the Mediterranean, in the Hérault Gorges of southern France, this cave includes the huge chamber known as the Cathédrale des Abîmes.
Situated at Saint Bauzille de Putois, the Grotte des Demoiselles (the Maidens' Cave) is an amazing sight. Visit the cave as a family and discover this outstanding underground "cathedral".

A "must-see" site, this cave has been given a three star rating by the Michelin guide, France's leading tourist guidebook

The visit begins with a trip in an underground funicular railway, the first of its kind in Europe.

It is also known as the "Fairy Cave"

This nickname comes from Occitan legends. Here, the fairies are also known as the "maidens".
Discover the cave's breath-taking natural features including its giant drip curtains, columns, stalagmites and stalactites.
The main room, referred to as the "cathedral" is home to a gigantic concretion which resembles a statue of the virgin with her child. Its sheer measurements are nothing short of spectacular at 120 m long, 80 m wide and 50 m high.
Its surprising acoustic characteristics make it possible to hold concerts here. Who could imagine a more original performance venue!
Outside, you'll find panoramic terraces, a shop and a cafeteria to make your visit even more enjoyable. The gardens include 160 varieties of Mediterranean flora.
