Restaurant Review - Le Petit Aubaisien, Aubais
My interest was first peaked when a leaflet through the door said that the new Petit Aubaisien resto just down the road (it used to be a Greek restaurant there...) would do take-out plat du jours.
Open through the Summer evening and lunchtime 7/7 days with an evening menu price of Euro16 which includes 4 courses (goat's cheese with honey included as the cheese course). A daily changing plat du jour - the day we went it was Tagine of lamb.
It's a small rather basic looking restaurant - still retaining that small Greek taverna, plastic table cloth style from it's predecessors - but the friendly welcome made up for it - especially towards our 2 year old toddler who was spoilt with offers of lollipops if she finished her meal (not to mention the on going games of hide-and-seek with the waitress). Incidentally, as she's too small to eat a child's menu, we often just ask for a small plate and for her to share our meal - a plate was brought immediately for her without us even asking - they are obviously well versed in family dining.
In the inside of the restaurant could hold around 20 people with 5 tables outside on the wooden decking terrace, which is right on the road, but with a small wall and planters - the road is virtually unused, so not unduly worrying for kiddies.
Recommended for an evening when you want to rush out at the last minute when you can't be bothered to cook, for simple home cooked food that's tasty. They do pichets of wine.
Parking: suggest you park on the main road in Aubais, near to the Notaire's office. rue Villeneuve is very narrow and there's nowhere to park.
