Restaurant Review
Mas de Roux, 30260 Bragassargues
June 2007
BritsNimes' monthly foody outing takes us to the Mas de Roux restaurant, gites & chambre d'hotes which is just outside Bragassargues.
You can find Bragassargues sign-posted right from the D999 nearly at Quissac as you are arriving from Nimes direction. From Bragassargues (so small you could blink and miss it),
continue on out of the village for another 4 minutes drive. On this road you'll find small signs pointing the direction. The restaurant is clearly visible from the road. Easy parking.
You enter the restaurant via a staircase to their first floor. The restaurant has obviously just been renovated to a high standards with just a touch of the modern. Bathrooms reached by descending again, and were modern and very clean. This restaurant I don't think should be recommended for those who have difficulty with stairs.
On first glance you see beautifully laundered linens on the tables and shiny glasses - high beamed ceilings strung with modern halogen lights. A large fireplace at one end of the room which is used for barbecuing. Tables well spaced apart. There is a outside dining terrace off the main area with fabulous views of the unspoilt countryside - vineyards & peace and quiet - nothing else. They boast a menu which is entirely 'home made', right from the bread to the patisseries.
As a group we were offered a goats cheese and smoked salmon salad (much the favourite of the whole group) followed by a blanquette de veau with a courgette tart and rice. Finished off with a strawberry mousse gateau. We were offered a selection of three red wines (bottles) of the region and our group rate was E20.00 incl. wine and coffee. The child's main course was imaginatively presented in the shape of a rabbit's head. The only comments I heard from the group was that the blanquette had rather a lot of fat on the meat - having said that this is a dish made with this kind of meat, so I don't think it's really anything to complain about. Other than that everything was very well presented.
I would give the restaurant 4 marks out of 5 and would recommend it for a Sunday lunch or Summer evening outside. (As well as a Winter's evening by the lovely cheminee!)
