Posted to Facebook so the Americans will stop asking silly questions. Let alone confusing this place with Provence, which someone just did: "Oh, I was picking grapes in your part of the world when I was in college. Chateau-neuf-des-Papes."

Some good imagery there, Peter, such a pity they got the office-cleaner's brother-in-law to photograph it and his sister to edit it in her spare time.

What a missed opportunity.

I shall probably make it available to my guests (on a selective basis), but when you think what they could have done - even some captions would have been great (I can recognise a fair bit, but you can't expect tourists to know where to find these places).

Unfortunately it's so typical of what we have come to expect from these functionaries (ie amateurs) who think they know what's going to attract the world to their (incredibly beautiful and dramatic) shores, but haven't a clue how to do it properly!

I honestly think that I could do better with my camcorder and a laptop.

Ah well, at least they tried.

I've gotten a lot of positive response from my readers, both on Facebook and my blog, where I also posted it. But you're right in that if you go any deeper into the business of attracting tourists here, it turns into a morass. The region, the department, and the individual cities are so busy squabbling with each other they can't form a united front, and when it comes to who exactly they're trying to attract, they don't seem to have an answer. Loads of money gets spent, but to what avail?

This video was on the L-R website at least four years ago, to my knowledge.

Actually Ron, I think this one might include some of the old one. http://www.sunfrance.com/videos/film/vos_vacances_en_languedoc_roussillon_sud_de_france was 3min and the new one http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4tZxOazYQ7g lasts 7 mins 27 secs

Bump. I didn't want to start a whole new thread because I thought this would be an appropriate response to Brian.

I'm roaming around with my flip and my laptop and I'm filming wine tastings with wine makers and local personalities. For a blog called Love That Languedoc... Obviously, I'd love it if you visited my site. But even more importantly, I'd love it if you help me set up episodes.

Sometimes my cinematographic skills are downright sloppy, but this relaxed/authentic style lets me post daily episodes and people are responding really well.

If you have favorite wineries I need to hit up, let me know. If you think there are non-wine people I should talk to, let me know. If you can help me get in touch with Olivia Ruiz, Robert Crumb, or other cool people/weirdos that live here or are from here, let me know. If you just want to hang out and drink wine, let me know.

Thanks.

Here is an interesting one ............

Frenchman meets Swedish girl and moves to Sweden where he is quality control man in a shipyard. Shipyard goes bust and he becomes international sales engineer for Swedish machinery company. Company relocates and husband starts mussel farm off Ljungskile.

Peter, then living in Ljungskile, adds co-ordinates of mussel farm to boat GPS. They go to the same events and share friends but never meet.

Couple sell up and buy ancient run down wine domain near Nimes in 1999.

10 years later, they are collecting awards :

Peter, who also left Sweden in 1999, visits Domain de Calet for the first time in 2009.

Sorry, I don't trust tour operators who don't respect apostrophes.

An interesting video of the Stes Maries de la Mer abrivado which takes place on the beach :

It descends into chaos when a bull makes a dash for the sea and it is too deep for the horses to follow ....
