Just to confirm I'm still getting slightly pixelated BBC for some regions, apparently mornings only.

I've always assumed it was an 80cm dish, but visitors this week reckon it is smaller.

Yours looks to be a Sky Zone 2 Dish 75cm wide x 60cm High.

I would reccomend you have a Triax 88 with Opticum 2x or 4x LNB installed in the shelter of the wall below the existing dish. Assuming i am correct in thinking your location is to the north of Montpellier.

That's where i thought. That Triax 88 + Opticum 2x or 4x would be ideal.

That would seem to confirm that the 88cm dish would do for me.

I'm still using a 10 yr old sky digibox - is that inferior to the Humax ?

By Email :

This from Gallargues le Montueux - I've asked what the dish size was ...
EDIT : The dish size was 85cm.

Hi Peter,

Just to let you know that I now have all my BBC channels. My TV man changed my dish to a slightly larger, better quality one, and yippee, I am up and running again.

I appreciate the advice you gave me,

Kind regards,

Jaspa

You use a false address in the UK , initialize the card and use it outside of Sky's' agreed areas of trading .....

It wont give you any better reception of 95% of the UK FTA TV Channels. It would however give you ITV 2 , 3, 4 HD.

I keep looking at Filmon, but I'm put off by the big warning notice which comes up saying that the site can be hacked. In other words the great unwashed can use it as a back door to access my worldly goods and I don't fancy that.

Actually your reception problems are good news for others now it's been revealed your dish isn't 80cm.

We rarely watch live TV beyond the news and the ability to record loads of stuff is invaluable (actually couldn't live without it and ability to skip/fast forward ads is great). A Humax Freesat (pka Foxsat) box at around £200 or so does this. Bought one in 2010 so keen to sweat the investment further and it looks like the Triax 88 with decent LNB I took a gamble on buying last summer will continue to do the trick.

Well the aerial guy has just been round, and 120 cms of parabole will hit my roof later this week. He's been testing out at the shop and that's the size which gives steady results round here, so I might as well go with him (I doubt his margin is much different on a larger or smaller dish).
As a bonus he's going to instal at the same time the bi-wiring I need for my Humax, which I hadn't got round to, so fingers crossed all round.

Well, Channel 4 and its siblings have now gone.

I can still get Al-Jazheera though, so that's all right then.

Herepian:
motorised oval (80x70cm) dish

all channels working fine now - our dish did not automatically find BBC1 and 2 HD/London itself (as it used to) but hubby coded them in manually and adjusted the dish slightly and all OK !!

So no new dish required! Today anyway .......

You are slightly further South from me and closer to the Catalonia "black hole" so I'm thinking I'm going to be OK.

We don't watch TV much but would miss it. In fact, we are surprised how well the various internet solutions are working :)

Like you, we are not great TV watchers but our daughters do like to see 'The Musketeers' and 'Call The Midwife' and we are following the Winter Olympics!
We do tend to 'watch' the VintageTV channel for the old music though.

Just incase we lost the UK TV channels, I installed the Firefox Media Hint add-on that was mentioned on here and it is amazing what you find on the BBC iplayer! Often there are things we might have watched that are on too late (we are up so early for the school bus that we are early to bed!) so we have moved one of our armchairs to the PC and Hubby went out yesterday and bought a pair of decent headphones! A bit sad but .....

I'm surprised putting a 120cms dish on a roof is being suggested. Make sure some seriously heavy duty mountings and pole is going to be used.

Yes, two signals to the Humax is great when more than one programme needs recording at the same time.

OK so the new 120cm parabole is in place - visually it's better than I feared as it sort of nestles into the roof. Have now got all channels in both sitting room and study, plus the record option on my Humax. Picture is rock-solid on all three.

I know what you mean, Graham, but we are regular customers and he knows we'll be down on him like a ton of bricks if anything goes wrong - he says this dish and fixing will certainly withstand 120 kph and the dish has a breaking threshold in excess of 200 kph. We are also sheltered with the hill of the village between us and the prevailing NW winds. He lives here, he's the expert, so ok - I'll take his word.

Not sure if it is just me, or the weather, but the signal seems to be getting a little stronger ?

I'm getting 24hr reception of most of the lost BBC channels and slightly pixelated reception of the lost ITV channels.

Any others experiencing this ?
