Questions and answers

On my terrace I have a small tree stump which I bought and it was varnished. On top of this I have a little olive tree in a pot. Yesterday in the middle of the tree stump I noticed masses of sawdust but no apparent holes. My fear is if this is a termite attack, some species fly and the may have (or might) get into my house.

I am reluctant to call in a specialist company who may say I have them in the house when I don't.

I also understand that legally you have to report them to the Mairie.

This trunk is against a wooden fence but no signs of anything there. Could it just be that the wood is rotting away?

If I do need professional treatment I just about scrape by financially now with no spare money and I believe treatment can be exorbitant.

Any advice please?

Death watch beetles are more common than termites.
Treatment is pressure injection of pesticide.
Symptoms are piles of sawdust .... I know !
