Think we will ever see an O'Leary apology ?

And Air France are entering the "low cost" buisness...ie: not telling you what the price of your flight is !

Talking of AF, I see they are in pole position to buy Alitalia.

A match made in heaven!

Air France to expand their low cost flight model to Montpellier ...

From 6 February 2013 AF will offer flights from Montpellier to Paris Orly at €49 one way

More : http://www.midilibre.fr/2013/01/07/air- ... 623177.php

This reflects increasing TGV competition (at prices from €25) and the launch of no frills flights from Marseille, Toulouse, Nice and Bordeaux in 2012.

Ryanais Michael O'Leary will be in Gothenburg tomorrow for a press conference.

As he only does big stories himself, it could be quite interesting.

Ryanair are aiming to expand from the 80m passengers carried in 2012 to 120m passengers within the next four years. Much of the growth will be by capitalising on routes being lost by smaller operators who will not survive. At present Ryanair are talking to 60 new airports as well as expanding routes with existing airports. The next hubs will be in Morocco - a first for Ryanair.

The question is .... how will they provide the extra 200 aircraft that will be needed ? Ryanair have made noises about switching to Airbus or Chinese aircraft as Boeing don't want to sell at the price Ryanair wants to buy !

Realistically they will stay with Boeing.

Typically, on the day after I sent out a newsletter, Ryanair send a press release.

They are expanding activities in Morocco including the establishment of bases at Fez and Marrakesh.

Loads of new Moroccan routes have been announced including :

Fez - Nimes
Essaouira - Marseille
Rabat - Marseille

Manchester Airport has won the auction to buy Stansted Airport.

Manchester Airports Group (MAG), is a holding company owned by the ten metropolitan borough councils of Greater Manchester, with Manchester City Council owning the largest stake.

In the last couple of years Ryanair has expanded services to Manchester and reduced Stansted services blaming the high BAA cost structure.

Assuming there are changes that Michael O'Leary finds acceptable, this could lead to the return of some Stansted - Languedoc routes which have been lost over the years. At one time there were Ryanair flights to Nimes, Montpellier and Beziers from Stansted.

I think you will find that ripping up the tarmac and getting some nice cobbled sets in place will take priority.

Do you think that Metropolitan Borough Councils should be owning and running airports? My last visit to Manchester airport told me that it needed a lot of money to upgrade it. Where I went was tight and very overcrowded. The car park was poor.

Admittedly it was a flying visit (groan) and I stayed land side but it was not a pleasant experience. I can only hope that the service they offer rate payers is a lot better.
