By email :

This applies to UK people who left in the past 15 years ...

Editors – not vital to include attachment , but also if you publish could you send me copy or link, this is the only thing that will convince MPs that a real, large, world exists outside the Westminster Bubble!

EXPAT VOTERS COULD WIN THE NEXT ELECTION

Just recently I came across a BBC report on so called Key Marginal constituencies!
Well I looked at it, all very interesting, it listed a lot of Conservative seats, according to them up for grabs, including ! Winchester, with a majority of 3,0481!

It got curiouser, I looked at the Labour list, Hallo I thought, what about Glenda Jackson, she only just squeaked in, so I looked it up. and sure enough her majority was just (Hampstead & Kilburn) 42, after, as I remember it, 3 recounts! And what about Ed Balls seat, Morley & Outwood, he lost a large majority, and retained seat by only 1,101, curiouser and curiouser, yet neither of these seats were listed as marginal. Does the BBC think these seats because of the MP, are inviolable!? Strange, right.

So impelled by this I then went to a lot of bother trolling through all the Labour seats, and the Lib Dem seats, noting down majorities at risk.
(It’s very easy to do, just go to: http://www.parliament.uk/mps-lords-and-offices/mps/ all the details are there, constituencies, majorities, percentage swing etc. plus email addresses for individual MPs.)

I did not bother checking the Conservative seats, quite certain that with the hideously known BBC left wing bias, they would have counted every seat possible.

With the attached results -If you cut off at the around 2,500 majority for a seat, you now wind up with possibly 25 Conservative key seats, instead of 27, and at least 37 (or possibly more) key Labour seats, instead of 13, and 16 Lib Dem seats at risk, instead of the quoted 9.

Quite a difference.

So one winds up with a number of key marginals, 78 constituencies which could change hands, in fact, could be swung, by expat voters from all over the world.

So Expats world wide, your vote is IMPORTANT, it is important that you sign up, your vote with perhaps two dozen others could swing a key marginal, your vote is not wasted, your vote together with that of other expats all over the world, CAN change things.

If you come from any of the listed marginals, see below, you can change things. And even if your constituency is not a marginal, your vote counts, swings and roundabouts, they happen.

Bearing in mind Labour, as one observed in various recent debates do not want Expats to have votes, neither do Lib-Dems, under the leadership of Nick Clegg, who thinks Expats should change nationality and vote where they are.

It’s up to Expats to do something about it. Sign up, and especially when online registration becomes available. Believe me the sudden uptake of voting registration will be noted, and then and only then, will MP’s, the parties, especially those with seats at risk, pay attention to Expats. You want proper representation in the UK Parliament, this is how to get it, how to do something about amongst other things, the WFA! and other issues of importance to Expats.

Think about it!

Problem about this is that British expats who have been abroad for over 15 years lose the right to vote.
They can't vote in France for the President or French government. So they may may be paying taxes in UK and France, but have no say how their tax is used.

The Tories have bowed to pressure and aim to change that :

The Conservatives have pledged to abolish the “15 year rule” that prevents millions of British expats from being able to vote – if the party wins the next general election.
The manifesto commitment is designed to protect the rights of citizens overseas who have “contributed to Britain all their lives” according to a Tory spokesman.
He said that if the party wins power next May, it will remove the cap that prevents Britons from voting in UK elections after they have been out of the country for 15 years and allow them the vote for life.
“Millions of British citizens live and work across the globe. Many have worked hard, contributed to Britain all their lives, and have close family living in Britain," said the spokesman.
“Like many other countries, the UK continues to protect British citizens living abroad with its military, embassy network, and passport and other services. However, Britain currently restricts the rights of these citizens to vote in general elections.
“The last Labour government reduced the amount of time that British citizens living overseas were entitled to register to vote in UK general elections to just 15 years. That change has been the subject of concerted campaigning from expat groups and Conservatives Abroad, the network for Conservative supporters overseas.

How about.

Tories have promised Europe in/out vote if they get elected (pressure from small business and the like the Shires and the like apparently)
Tory big wigs want to stay in Europe
15+ year expats resident in Europe would presumably vote to stay in

I got my official letter from Southwark, where I used to live, saying that as I've been away more than 15 years I no longer have a vote.
It is, as has been noted elsewhere, a scandal that you can be disenfranchised in a united Europe because of your choice of country to live in. I note that the UK would happily tax me for any income there.
So what's a citizen to do? Become a citizen I think, not a subject. Becoming French doesn't look particularly easy from a paperwork point of view but I'm going to do it as my winter project. Even my mum's not against it any more.
And especially I think this is the only option now for an interested citizen (interested in participating in life, that is) since it appears my only hope of ever getting the vote back in my native country is to vote for the hateful and hate-filled Tories. That ain't gonna happen.

Well, I think we know where Chris Ward's sympathies lie! With a bit of luck he'll obtain French citizenship just in time to vote against the FN in the next presidentials! I can but assume that he broadly supports the policies advocated by the shower of bungling incompetents currently in charge. I shudder whenever I see FH on TV. He seems determined to wreck the country as he follows his personal crusade to implement outdated items of extreme socialist dogma.
