Unfortunately if you have a blood line from the Republic and the Isle of Man , I have to accept ou as a Celtic warrior   I find it hard to visualise your fore bearers, fighting the infidel Angeles, with a Sat dish in one hand, and A high gain, digital antenna in the other.  . But our policy must be settled ! No ugly birds, get rid of all the ugly geeks, only have lots of love. and NO WHITE VAN DRIVERS but Peace to you all :D :D

Marine Le Pen has just told her supporters at the Jeanne d'Arc, memorial rally, that she is not recommending any Candidate. " Vote Blanc" So the percentage of voter would seem to be about 80% but only 55 -60% voting for a candidate. It is in my opinion a very brave and honourable decision.

I think it's a stupid decision. By not voting it will ensure a left wing government. Given that she's far right, where's the sense in that?

I think I heard this on the radio (loosely translated) :

"... that nasty Mr S was rude about me and wouldn't give me a spot in his government, so I don't see why I should support him. Dwarf Hungarian gits will be the first to go when I get in next time ... "

I think the assumption is that whoever gets in it won't last more than one term and Marine will come back stronger.

Voting blanc is a long established French voting tradition. What it does, is to show that the voters have exercised their right to vote, but not for either party. So in practical terms there could be a 83% turnout. With 35% Going to Hollande, 25% to Sarko, 20% voting blanc and other 3% spoiled papers. In the UK they would be only classed as spoilt papers.

Hi Everyone,
Sorry for not replying sooner to all of your very reassuring and helpful comments etc. Myself and my wife have just returned from a 10 day holiday to - yes you can guess- Pezenas/Ceret, FRANCE ! And guess what - we are still welcome :-)

I guess everyone is feeling on edge with everything that is going on in Europe and the rest of the world. These are very uncertain and trying times we live in and people are naturally feeling insecure in one way or another! When on holiday in Pezenas and Ceret it was obvious that things were not right. There was a distinct lack of tourists about (the boat from Dover to Calais was not even half-full) In Pezenas some of the shops and restaurants were closed down and the locals looked less than happy! It was sad seeing it like this as we were used to seeing a busy, happy place with lots of tourists. And I anticipate there is even worse to come in the next year or two.

Reading between the lines I can guess what the real gripe is in France and it is not citizens of the UK, Ireland , Germany etc retiring there that worries the French. When we lived in Pezenas a short time ago we noticed a class of people moving in to the town. Soon afterwards we had Graffiti problems all over, drug problems and general anti social behaviour. Yet nothing was done to prevent it!

My philosophy has always been "when in doubt - do nothing!" and that is what we are going to be doing for another year.

We thank all of you for your sound advice and comments and wish you well for the future.

Best regards

Tommy

Glad to hear that you had a great time, You will always be welcomed, with your Celtic background
After Sunday's vote, the country will be moving to decide, which part of the UK to exclude from France! I understand that Witney, in Oxfordshire, is already an undesirable address. :D :D

Oh come on, LasC, that would almost exclude Jeremy Clarkson, and with a petrolhead running the forum, it just can't happen. :D

(I remember being passed on the A6 somewhere near Dijon by the three of them scorching past in some of loveliest road-candy imaginable - my beloved little 325 beemer convertible suddenly felt a bit inadequate!)
