Hi

Does anyone have/ sell loft insulation? Or any reccomendations as to where to buy any at a reasonable price?

Is fibreglass still the best material to use? I live in a very cold village house.

Also I've heard there are government grants available for improving the efficiency of your home? Are these easy to get and are they applicable for just buying the materials and doing the work yourself?

Any advice greatly appreciated.

Re. loft insulation, I think you should try Leroy Merlin or Brico Depot. Both should be easily checked out on the internet and should be located in a town near you. Leroy Merlin often boast of English speaking staff, unless of course you are OK to discuss you needs with staff on the day.

Loft insulation is just a small part of insulating your home. Brico Depot may well have a selection of insulation material to dry-line solid walls from the inside.

Ref. the grants, I believe there is a reduction you can claim from your Inpots payable in France, but I think I'm right in saying that you do have to use a specialist contractor to be eligible. Don't buy a truck load of stuff before you check the grant situation for your self. Leroy Merlin will certainly be pleased to discuss this topic with you and would probably nominate a company to do the work. I am assuming that you are fully resident in France.

I made it to Brico depot this morning actually, so my saturday will be spent wrestling 20 cm thick fibre glass tomorrow.
